iCareShare Program

Become a change-maker.

Choose a way to help and see firsthand the positive change you make when you visit. Choose from the Wish Lists for our Featured Destinations, or come up with your own idea. We will see if it can be accommodated.

How it works

iCareShare experiences take place in our Featured Destinations and are typically short, lasting from less than 1 day to 3 days. They are part of your longer, customized vacation, or part of a group trip (if you have joined an iCare Group departure). Our nonprofit partner is your guide for the duration. Usually, your Wish List item is there before you arrive.

This experience is an opportunity for very meaningful human and cultural exchange. We believe that you, the donor traveler, may also benefit from this experience. You may glean the unique wisdom of the local people, or be reminded of “simpler” values, or, your mind may be stretched as you build a new perspective.

The philanthropic part was a highlight. This was one of my five favorite vacations… and I’ve had a lot of vacations.
– R. Fletcher, iCareShare Peru 2011

Enjoy the experience of connecting in a very personal way with the people and the destination. You will see the benefits you bring being delivered on the ground in a practical and down to earth way.

Examples

Peru: On your way to Machu Picchu, take a detour to a highland village in the Sacred Valley. Give the locals the gift of a set of geese so they have a protein source. Or, provide the means so that those who need dental care can see the mobile dentist.

Enjoy a favorite traditional dish, cooked in the ground, as you hear and share stories.

Galapagos: Have lunch with local WildAid staff and visit the project you are supporting. Perhaps you are helping to care for the sniffer dogs. They need daily care and have vet costs. Occasionally they are targets of wildlife poachers.

The impact of donations, knowledge, and stories shared can be remarkable. It can be measured in bright smiles and gratitude, and in transformed lives.

Many iCare travelers mark these moments as the life-affirming highlight of their vacation.

$55 Solar-powered Light for Studying

$55 Solar-powered Light for Studying

Of all people living in the US without electricity, 75% of them are Navajos. Many Navajo children read by the light of kerosene lanterns after the sun does down. This is not a healthy practice.

Consider buying a small solar light and panel for a Navajo child living without electricity. These mini-systems are robust, waterproof, and designed to withstand multiple falls.

When you visit, see how the nifty solar lighting system you bought works, and if possible, meet the child.
