iCare About

The Amazon

The Amazon is one of the richest areas of the world in animal and plant diversity. It is the home to the Kichwa Indians.

Despite the encroachment of the modern world, many Kichwa live quite primitively. Light for the evening may come from candles. The local doctor is a shaman. Modern medicine and education may be completely inaccessible.

Clean water is a large challenge. Families suffer from amoebas, Guardia, and other maladies. And the encroachment of oil companies, drilling, and local development with little regard for properly disposing of waste oil is now taking its toll.

There are many ways you can help to preserve this remote place and its inhabitants. We hope you see a Wish List item below that touches your heart.

When you visit, meet by grateful recipients of your gift.  Be treated to a traditional lunch, and hear stories of the lives of the locals, and why your item is needed.

If you support the youth and a program to help uplift their lives, you may be treated to a party and a traditional dance!

When you visit, see how the nifty solar lighting system you bought works.
